Maybe he is in depression due to his wife's actions. She may be very controlling and treats him badly. Eventually, he may have lost all sexual or emotional feelings for her. He can't move out easily because a divorce is not always easy on a man when he knows he is leaving due to her bad nature. This is just my assumption.
